On August 17 and 18th, 2024, Patriarch H.H Mor Ignatius Aphrem II is scheduled to visit the Syriac Orthodox community in Canada for the first time in Canadian history. This dinner banquet is to honor and welcome the Patriarch to Canada.

The Honorary is the 123rd Patriarch and Supreme Head of the Universal Syriac Orthodox Church and all the East. since May 29th, 2014. Before becoming Patriarch, His Holiness was a Syrian-American Christian prelate and served as the Archbishop of Syriac Orthodox Church for the Eastern United States. According to sacred tradition, the church’s patriarch holds apostolic succession through Saint Peter.

Syriac Orthodox Church was established in Antioch, under the throne of St. Peter in the 1st century. Church has significant number of worldwide followers in India, Middle East, Africa, North America, South America, Europe, Australia, and various diaspora communities across the globe. In Canada, the church has about 22 congregations of Malankara community through out the country with major presence in Ontario as well as established congregations for Syrian Christian community.

St. Mary’s Syriac Orthodox Church of Canada is the first Malankara Syriac Orthodox Church established in Canada and has surpassed 40 years since it’s inception.
